چکیده

Biomedical titanium metals subjected to gas under precisely regulated oxygen partial pressures (PO2) from 10 to 10 Pa at 973 K for 1 hour were soaked in a simulated body fluid (SBF), whose ion concentrations were nearly equal to those of human blood plasma, at 36.5 C for up to 7 days. After soaking in SBF, the following relationship held: The growth rate of apatite decreased in the order PO2 of 10 Pa > PO2 of 10 Pa > PO2 of 10 Pa > PO2 of 10 Pa >> PO2 of 10 Pa. These results suggest that TiO2 containing an optimal level of nitrogen strongly induces apatite formation but samples coated only with titanium nitride do not. Thus, controlling the formation of TiO2 and/or titanium nitride is expected to improve the bioactivity and wear resistance of biomedical titanium metal.

Osteoinduction on Acid and Heat Treated Porous Ti Metal Samples in Canine Muscle

Samples of porous Ti metal were subjected to different acid and heat treatments. Ectopic bone formation on specimens embedded in dog muscle was compared with the surface characteristics of the specimen. Treatment of the specimens by H2SO4/HCl and heating at 600 °C produced micrometer-scale roughness with surface layers composed of rutile phase of titanium dioxide. The acid- and heat-treated spe...

Bioactive Titanate Layers Formed on Titanium and Its Alloys by Simple Chemical and Heat Treatments

To reveal general principles for obtaining bone-bonding bioactive metallic titanium, Ti metal was heat-treated after exposure to a solution with different pH. The material formed an apatite layer at its surface in simulated body fluid when heat-treated after exposure to a strong acid or alkali solution, because it formed a positively charged titanium oxide and negatively charged sodium titanate...

Preparation of bioactive titania films on titanium metal via anodic oxidation.

OBJECTIVES To research the crystal structure and surface morphology of anodic films on titanium metal in different electrolytes under various electrochemical conditions and investigate the effect of the crystal structure of the oxide films on apatite-forming ability in simulated body fluid (SBF). METHODS Titanium oxide films were prepared using an anodic oxidation method on the surface of tit...

Apatite-forming ability of titanium in terms of pH of the exposed solution.

In order to elucidate the main factor governing the capacity for apatite formation of titanium (Ti), Ti was exposed to HCl or NaOH solutions with different pH values ranging from approximately 0 to 14 and then heat-treated at 600°C. Apatite formed on the metal surface in a simulated body fluid, when Ti was exposed to solutions with a pH less than 1.1 or higher than 13.6, while no apatite formed...

Preparation and Characterization of Hydroxyapatite Coating on Ti6Al4V Cylinders by Combination of Alkali-Heat Treatments and Biomimetic Method

Biomimetic method was used to apply hydroxyapatite (HA) coating onto Ti6Al4V cylinders. This process is a physicochemical method in which a substrate is soaked in a solution simulating the physiological conditions, for a period of time enough to form a desirable layer of the calcium phosphate on the substrate. In the present study, specimens were soaked in 5, 10 M solutions of NaOH at temperatu...
